When is a Sherry not a Sherry?
The region of Jerez faces the Altlantic Ocean near the Strait of Gibralter. Here the white grape variety Palomino is grown on chalky albariza soils, famous for a wide range of bone-dry to lusciously sweet style fortified Sherry wines. More than fortified wines Bodegas Cota 45 produces site-specific crisp, dry white wines from vineyards outside the village of Sanlucar de Barrameda.
Miraflores is village wine that blends 3 neighboring vineyards to make a bright, briny, seafood-friendly white that smells of ripe pear, citrus pith, apple blossoms, and chalk dust. For added texture and dimension the wine is aged with a thin veil of yeast, called flor. Balanced and delicious. Pair this wine with your favorite fried seafood dish. [AA, 07/22]
