Domaine de la Pinte Trousseau Jura Arbois Red 2023
- In stock, ready to ship
Founded in 1952 by Roger Martin after being inspired by Vin Jaune and Arbois heritage. He originally began the project with Marcel Poux who was the mayor of Arbois at the time as well as well known vintner and negociant, but Marcel died shortly after the project began. De la Pinte has survived through the years by maintaining a hands off approach by the ownership of the Martin Family for the last 73 years.
The inaugural plot purchased was 20 hectares just below the town of Pupillin on the edge of Arbois and was named La Pinte a la Capitaine on grey marl soil. They planted a large portion of Savagnin with the intention of reviving the popularity of Vin Jaune. Their first vintage came in 1959 after constructing a large winery and ascribing to it the motto: ‘Plante beau, cueille bon, et pinte bien,’ which roughly translates to: ‘Plant prettily, pick good stuff, and knock it back well.’
They began converting to organics by 1999 and by 2009 they had began converting to Biodynamics. Now they have been certified by Ecocert for Organics, Demeter for Biodynamics, and have applied to join Biodyvin, a prestigious biodynamic group, sponsored by Stephane Tissot who is the only Jura member.
This Trousseau bottling is definitely a time capsule of old school rustic Jura wines that distinguished the area from the rest of France and influenced the natural wine movement as a whole. It’s got aromas of brambly, barnyardy, red fruit and the palate is a rich and complex ride of that bramble fruit, wet earth, spices and herbs. It’s got a great acid structure as well which will make it a great food wine for the winter. Pair with a lentil soup, comte cheese, or a hearty stew. Jeremy Hernandez
