On Tuesday, April 9th, we’re hosting two of the finest minds in wine today: Eric Texier and Gernot Kollmann. Eric is in the Rhone Valley making wines under his own name, and Gernot is the owner/winemaker of Immich-Batterieberg in Germany's Mosel Valley. Though the wines and regions are quite different, Eric and Gernot share an approach to winemaking that is informed by their intimidating intellect and endless curiosity.
 
Neither came from winemaking families, and neither have ever rested on their laurels. They are teachers, social connectors, and winemakers that make everyone around them better.
 
There will be only 12 tickets available for purchase, priced at $50 each. Each ticket will include:
  • 2-3 glasses of wine during the welcome hour
  • 1 hour masterclass
  • Tasting sessions of 6 wines during the masterclass
  • Food prepared by our friends at Oma Grassa
Riesling and Rhone wines may not be the most obvious pairing but these winemakers have a lot in common in terms of going against the trends in order to capture their respective regions. Both have been reducing sulfur levels and increasing land stewardship efforts for several decades now. 
 
Every time I speak with them I'm left with nuggets of wisdom that I think about and pass on for years to come. I've been fortunate to be their guest when visiting Eric in France and Gernot in Germany, and I'm very excited to return the favor by hosting them in Brooklyn next week.
