Soellner 'Berg Eisenhut' Roter Veltliner 2021
- In stock, ready to ship
Toni and Daniela Soellner have been pioneers of organic and Biodynamic farming in Austria's Wagram region, on the banks of the Danube River, starting in the 1990s.
Roter Veltliner is one of the oldest Austrian varieties, likely introduced to Austria by the Romans. It is not related at all to Gruner Veltliner, which has only been around for 100 years or so. Roter Veltliner is more complex and textural, and it's a shame more people don't work with it. Luckily this version from the Soellner's a great, affordable introduction to the variety. It comes from steep terraces planted on iron-rich gravel soils and is aged in 1000 liter ceramic tanks. Citrus oil, mandarin orange, and ripe, silky fruit. Complex, but mostly joyful and refreshing.
