Clos de la Roilette Fleurie "La Griffe du Marquis" 2020
- In stock, ready to ship
The Coudert family farms the 9 hectare vineyard Clos de la Roilette, in the appellation of Fleurie right on the border of Moulin-a-Vent. In an area flush with admired producers, the Coudert family stand amongst the very top. They have farmed this vineyard since the late 60's and have worked very hard to maintain a hands-off approach to their farming. The soils are predominantly clay which requires all work to be done by hand and result in more structured, deeper wines perfect for some cellar age.
The Griffe du Marquis began in 2009 and is made from a tiny parcel of the oldest vines in the clos. If you have had their Vengdage Tardive bottling, this is from the same 80+ year old parcels. However, the Griffe du Marquis wine is aged in old Burgundy barrels as opposed to the VT which is aged in large old foudres. The result is the de facto tte de cuve - a wine perfect for aging and yet more approachable than the brooding VT. The wine is made in such small quantities that when it landed as a current release, it was snatched up in 24 hours.
