Céline Jacquet is a younger winemaker in the village of Arbin in the Combe de Savoie, with her first vintage in 2011 coming after studying in Beaujolais. She works organically on just five hectares on steep slopes that don't allow for tractors, so all the vineyard work is done by hand. As of now she likes this way of working and has no plans to expand. In the cellar she is hands-off with little or zero sulfur additions, but her wines are classical, balanced, and fine-tuned. This makes for some excellent, lively, and direct expressions of local varieties, including this Roussette de Savoie, aka Altesse. It's crystalline with notes of white peach and bracing acidity. On the finish is some serious Alpine minerality that coats the tongue and delivers some brisk mountain nourishment. Jonathan Kemp
