The gently rolling slopes surrounding Črnko Winery, just south of the Austrian border, grow in a region formerly known as Lower Styria (once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.) There’s more than a thousand years of viticultural history in the area, which was also a favorite of Hapsburg Archduke Johann of Austria — so much so, in fact, that he founded a vineyard credited for introducing Western European grape varieties to Slovenia.
This 100% Muscat sees some skin contact but isn't super duper orange or funky. Dry, tangy, and mineral with more subtle floral notes than the typical Muscat. This easygoing, refreshing wine comes in a liter bottle with a crown cap, so it's been expertly designed for park hangs. -Kate Masters and Jonathan Kemp
