Chateau l’Escart was built in 1752 in the village of Saint-Loubés, north east of the city of Bordeaux on the Dordogne River. The estate consists of roughly 40 hectares of single vineyards. The average age of the vines here are 43 years old and are planted on fine gravel and clay-limestone soil. Through their commitment to the quality of their wines and vines the family converted to biodynamics to ensure the utmost health and stewardship of the land. Their stewardship of nature is carried through to the cellar as well with only native yeast fermentations and no added sulfur.
The age and inherent vigor of these healthy Cabernet Franc vines is certainly present in the depth, freshness, and clarity of the wine in your glass. A bouquet of dank dark purple fruit will meet you up front as well as notes of black cherry, herbal sage, and white pepper. Although this Cab Franc has the classic characteristics of Bordeaux there’s a refreshing quality to the balance of the deeper tones of cocoa, black pepper oil, herbs and a bit of graphite. Overall this is a tad bit juicier than your classic Saint-Emilion and as such it will be right at home with your summer cook out needs or more classic leaning palates. Jeremy Hernandez
