Bitoque 'Negra Criolla En Tinaja' Bolivia 2022
- In stock, ready to ship
From Negra Criolla vines planted at 2300-2400 meters above sea level in Bolivia's Cinti Valley. They are tended by local farmers but essentially grow wild, climbing up into the canopy of pink peppercorn trees. Winemaker Alejandro Medina grew up in Santa Barbara, California but regularly traveled to Bolivia to visit his father's family. Before he passed away, he and Alejandro worked together to find some of the ancient vines that go into this wine. Alejandro is the owner of Bibi Ji in Santa Barbara along with Raj Parr.
This is a soulful, deeply delicious wine that goes down easy but has way more to it than appears at first gulp. Raspberry and blueberry notes with a hint of canned San Marzano tomatoes, it has elegance, smooth finesse, and a long finish but never loses a sense of rustic, playful irreverance. Jonathan Kemp
