Ancestrale is located on the island of Salina, part of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago off the northeast coast of Sicily. Friends and business partners Antonino "Nino" Caravaglio and Giuseppe Mascoli emphasize truly small scale and sustainable farming by focusing on micro parcels that express the terroir of this magical landscape that’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Nino has also been producing capers since beginning his business in 1989. The vineyards for Ancestrale are located between two spent volcanoes, Monte dei Porri and Monte Fossa delle Felci.
100% Malvasia di Lipari, planted in 1970. 0.5ha plot in Contrada Porri near Valdichiesa, a valley between the two spent volcanoes--Monte dei Porri and Monte Fossa delle Felci. 250m, facing northwest. Sandy silty topsoil over lava rock. Harvest at the end of August at yields of 35hl/ha. Destemmed and macerated for one month in underground clay amphorae. Aging also in clay for a year, then a year in bottle. Two 750L amphorae produced, 1500 bottles. 12% abv.

Manhattan and Queens delivery is $25, or free for orders over $320.
For our local customers (within 0.5 miles of our shop) orders over $95 qualify for free delivery.
An adult over the age of 21 must be present to receive and sign for all deliveries (front desk attendants and doormen qualify but may be asked for ID).
For wine delivery outside of New York we ship via common carrier. Direct Press wine club shipments are free to members.
We currently do not ship wine to the following states: AL, AR, CO, DE, GA, HI, IA, KS, KY, NC, MD, MS, MT, OK, PA, SD, UT, VT, WI. As statutory laws are constantly changing, please note that this list is updated frequently, and acceptance of an order does not guarantee that we will ultimately be able to ship wine to you.
