Notes from the importer: It was agreed that beginning with the 2018 vintage, Keller would manage the Schubertslay vineyard and produce wines from this site in the Mosel. In return, Julian and Nadine would get to manage some parcels in Keller's Rheinhessen: They agreed on two sites. First, the Frauenberg, a marl and limestone site with red clay. The second site is lesser known, a new site for the Keller estate deeper into the Zellertal (the valley of the Zeller River), perhaps a five to ten-minute drive from the Frauenberg, south and west of Flörsheim-Dalsheim. In this frigid valley, Keller has planted a number of high-density sites with soils rich in marl and limestone and a red-tinged clay. The site's name rolls off the tongue: "Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgott."

This "Rote Erden" is the declassified fruit from these two Grand Cru; this is a village-level dry Riesling only in name, as it is sourced from the two Grand Cru sites. 

The wine has all the sleekness and energy of Julian's Mosel bottlings, yet it is denser and broader, with that explosive glycerin-rich sleekness that has made this region so famous.
