Most of the wine culture in Italy's Piedmont region is centered in Langhe: home to Barolo and Barbaresco and some of the most famous, and expensive, wines, in the world. For many years that's all I knew of the Piedmont, but as is often the case, there is another narrative of Piedmont with its own remarkable characters happening just outside these borders.

This month we'll explore a whole crew, spurred on by figures such as the late Stefano Bellotti of Cascina degli Ulivi, who helped legitimize Biodynamics in Europe; and Fabrizio Iuli, who is helping to rebuild the wine community in the Monferrato hills.
