The best of 2024!

Like any art form, wine is subjective. But unlike, say, the Sistine Chapel, it can also be maddeningly ephemeral. Any given year, winemakers face the daunting task of balancing science — botany, chemistry, microbiology — with the vagaries of weather and their own skills in the cellar. Because no two vintages are the same, a wine that shone with freshness and concentration in 2022 might feel flatter in 2023 thanks to last-minute rain diluting the grapes during harvest.
With so much subjectivity, picking the “best” of our past Direct Press selections comes with a little bit of pressure. Nevertheless, it’s what Jeremy, Jonathan and I strove to do for our annual year-end roundup. This year, the methodology was a little different — rather than sending a survey to wine club members, which didn’t result in a very robust sample size in 2024 (no offense, you guys), we pored through sales data to select the best-selling Direct Press wines of the last several years. With this approach, not only could we dig through our archives to unearth forgotten favorites (here I’m looking at Iuli’s “Natalin,” a truly banging Gringolino featured in July 2022), but we could also get a broader sense of what all our customers are enjoying.
You can read more about those bestsellers — and check whether your own favorites wines made the cut — in the Direct Press 'zine!
Cheers,
Kate, Jonathan, Jeremy, and Greg
