Elodie Balme is a disciple of the biodynamic wine grower Marcel Richaud in the Cotes du Rhone. She took over a few hectares from her father, Bernard, a viticulturist, and made her first wine in 2006. Today they farm 28 hectares as a team working to organically certify the entirety of their holdings. This wine is from Rasteau, a few kilometers north of Avignon, and is made from Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, and Grenache. This is the most gentle and delicate expression of 15% alc. red wine I've had in a longggg time. It's plush on the palate with red plum and ripe black cherry fruit. Meaty, moody, and fresh.....I still can't believe it's 15% alc! It floods your chest with warmth and tickles your toes. The firm and fresh finish is coated in spiced clove and toasted cinnamon.
