Christian Venier "Le Clos de Carteries" 2020
- In stock, ready to ship
70% Pinot Noir and 30% Gamay from Christian’s higher-elevation vineyard called ‘Les Hauts de Madon.’ Vines are 17 years-old and planted on flinty clay with rocky subsoils.
This is a more darker and less floral than Clos des Carteries, and has a thicker grip of tannins. There's still a lifted blueberry note, but there's red plum, black pepper, and a touch of star anise. Overall a very serious wine that will loosen up with a little time in the glass, so go slow if you can.
Fermented whole-cluster using natural yeast in a cement and resin tank; the grapes undergo carbonic maceration, and are bottled unfiltered with no SO2. [Jonathan Kemp, September 2021]
