Jo Landron, the infamous "mustache of the Muscadet," was handed the reigns of his family's estate, Domaine de la Louvetrie, in 1990. He converted the 36 acres to organic viticulture in 1999 and later to Biodynamics in 2008, a rarity in this area of the Loire Valley.
Melonix is Landron's "Le Rebelle du Domaine" — the rebel of the domaine. This bottling comes from older Melon de Bourgogne vines and is made in the most hands-off methods in the cellar: native yeast fermentation, no sulfur and no filtration. Unlike most Muscadet on the market, the wine goes through malolactic transformation, giving it richer, rounder texture. Ripe Bartlett pear and tart Meyer lemon dominate the salty, somewhat yeasty palate. A perfect companion to creamy cheeses and grilled fish.
