They were once part of the same turn of the century farm and we have cared for the vines alongside ours since 2015. The parcel is planted to heirloom Wente chardonnay clone cuttings taken from Celilo vineyard on Underwood and smaller amounts of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. We released a small 600 liter cuvée of very dense Chardonnay from 2016, but the rest of the wines from 2015 from 2020 have now been assembled in a series of 500 liter puncheons to age together. The various vintages represent a kaleidoscope of styles and ways of looking at the site. In some vintages the wine saw extended maceration on the skins, in others it was directly pressed. Some vintages were very fresh, while others showed more salty and oxidative characters. The resulting wine is very deep, shimmering pink in color, with aromas of salted melon and lavender honey. It is both focused and texturally expansive with subtle and enveloping tannins.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1270/3173/products/image_03b76ddd-275d-49c2-9abf-d65fda296a93.png?v=1628634774
hana-makgeolli-takju-brooklyn-rice-wine-375ml
Hana Makgeolli "Takju" Brooklyn Rice Wine [375ml]

<div data-mce-fragment="1" class="w-product-description font--small font--secondary text-component allow-white-space" data-v-0fc12952="" data-v-8c293188="" highlightstring="" allowwhitespace="true" content="HWAJU 12 | Stemming from the Korean root words hwa and ju, HWAJU can translate to both flower wine and fire water. Light-bodied, with crisp citrus and stone fruit tones. Black cherry, sage, fine texture, and a nice balance of fruit and tannin. What a vintage to try this new concept out in, 2021 continues to prove itself to be such a dynamic vintage; generous in fruit and floral character, with incredible acid and flavor development. By 1993, he’d earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture from Cal Poly, followed by a Master’s in Enology from Fresno State in 1997. But what he learned was that there’s quite the difference between the natural practices his own grandfather (Lino Martinelli) had employed and the manufacturing practices the schools were teaching. So he went forth and established the aptly-named Old World Winery 25 years ago, with the intention of reestablishing those natural winemaking processes. OWW has been employing ambient yeast/wild fermentation, utilizing biodynamic practices, and thwarting chemical applications ever since.
