This is a style of wine that I often thinks gets overlooked in favor of the 'crisp and clean' profile. In the warm climate in the south of France, the grapes get ripe and the acidity is lower, so to make a 'crisp' white you have to block malolactic fermentation and pick earlier and erase some of the character of the grapes. The P'tit Pithon Blanc, by contrast, is a great example of a no-BS Roussillon white.
The grapes are sourced from Olivier Pithon's vineyards and from his friends and neighbors who also farm organically. Macabeo, Grenache Gris, and Grenache Blanc from windy vineyards planted on schist. Fermented in older barrel, it spends 7-8 months in demi-muid. Great balance, it has moderate acidity but stays fresh and bright with key lime and saline notes to complement the softer, creamier body. Low sulfur, it's not too wild or funky, just easy to drink and great to have around when you're not sure what's for dinner. Unpretentious but satisfying. [Jonathan Kemp, November 2021]
