I think the color of Dani's wines may just be enough to enjoy them — they vibrate and glow neon fuschia. Where the other red wines on offer today are grippy, intense and powerful, these bottles (this one, and the Pais) exhibit a tea-like structure. Dani’s wines are like berry tisane: dried raspberries, wild honey, citrus peel. Between the two, the Cinsault has a wilder personality, and though it inches towards sourness, it finishes balanced and firm. Blackberry and bay leaf; watermelon and hibiscus. Great with a chill and perfect if you like wild, coastal Spanish wines (like Partida Creus) or even the nervy, energetic reds from the Jura.
More on the vineyard: The grapes are from Preston Farm & Winery in Dry Creek Valley, planted in 1988. The first two vintages of La Onda (2013 and 2014) were Cinsault blends, and since that vintage he's been looking for organic Cinsault like this one.
