How this wine is still so affordable I don't know, but it is essentially my 'house wine.' Cabernet Franc from a sandy, terraced vineyard near the Loire River in Bourgueil. It's a beautiful, fresh red to serve with a chill, but it has far more detail and structure than you would guess. It's not an intensely peppery expression of Cabernet Franc, veering more towards violets and blueberries. The fruit is ripe but has some spicy tension. It somehow encompasses the best qualities of glou glou and serious winemaking, all while masquerading as a simple table wine. In 2018, the hotter weather made this wine more substantial, so they are calling it "Franco de Porc" since it has a little more, um, meat on it's bones.
The Caslot family's vines have been certified Biodynamic since 2012 but have been organic for much longer.
