La Onda "Levantamuertos" Pais 2018Regular price $37.00 Save $-37.00
Though similarly structured to the Cinsault, the two La Onda wines are different enough for me to recommend grabbing one of each. The Pais brings a little extra power and a smoldering, quiet intensity to the table. Refreshing like Ocean Spray and tonic. There’s a note of fresh fir and sage brush that lifts the rest of the aromas. A very slight licorice bitterness on the palate tempers the juicy structure, finishing with a mulled citrus note that might just keep you up at night. This is Dani's first attempt working with California País, a grape that he's been working with in the southern hemisphere for the last few years. The result is incredible.
More on the vineyard: this País is from Story Vineyard in Amador County, from a vineyard planted in 1894 near an old mining shaft. Less than an acre of País remains from the original 20+. The vines are dry-farmed and own-rooted.
