The Graci vineyards sit on the north side of Mt Etna in Passopisciaro at 3,330 feet. Olive and apples trees are planted along with the vines, all farmed organically. A few years ago in the NY Times, Alberto Aiello Graci was quoted as saying, “Lava? We are fatalists. We don’t care. It’s normal for us.” Though the vines are threatened by Etna erupting, the volcanic soil actually helped vines survive the phylloxera scourge that hit Sicily in the 1930s. Some of the vines at Graci are ungrafted because of this.
The rosato smells like fresh fruit, white flowers, and rosewater. Nice and ripe on the palate, like a fresh peach. That soft stone fruit gets lifted up with a really crispy citrus component, giving it just enough tart energy. Really unpretentious and really delicious, it's perfectly suited for sitting in the heat and drinking with friends, no food required. 100% Nerello Mascalese, fermented and aged in concrete tank.
