The fact that this wine is only $26 is completely insane. I've had a hard time with Savagnin lately - I love this grape, but as climate change has made the Jura warmer and warmer, some wines have become a little too rich and lacking the region's trademark acidity. When we were told about this 2017 from Desire Petit, I jumped for joy.
Aged in 600 liter barrels for 18 months and regularly topped up in the Ouille style, this is my kind of Savagnin. Aromatically I get a lot of citrus blossom, hazelnut and cheese rind. The palate is full bodied, but balanced, with creamy texture and bright, buoyant acidity, ripe yellow orchard fruit and nutty pastry notes go on and on. How is this wine $26?!
