Emerging Talents In Oregon: Buona Notte, Monument Wine Co. and Johan

This week we’re offering up five bottles from three of Oregon’s great young talents. In many ways this is our bread and butter — new voices in a region that we consider a spiritual home away from home, of sorts. While this ain’t your Grandma’s Pinot Gris, and your Grandpa may not recognize this slice of Oregon, these five wines capture all of the raw energy, elegance and show-stopping flair that make Oregon the great frontier of American winemaking.

Though all of them are putting their own stamp on the wines, you can also see the influence of their mentors. Graham’s Buona Notte wines have the same delicate sinew, the same bouquet of Hiyu, but the wines are more accessible and more giving. The same goes for the Monument Wine Co. wines; while Tyler worked with one of the funkier names in the valley, his wines are styled a la Laurent Saillard, offering more pleasure than funk. Morgan’s journey is slightly different, as she’s taking the reins at a vineyard that is a source of some of Oregon’s finest fruit, but is still underrated for their own wines. We’re thrilled with her first offering and can’t wait to see the new heights that she takes Johan to.
